You know that the book won't discredit Obama, and that Fox News knows it won't, because if it could discredit the president, Fox wouldn't have revealed the pseudonymous author's name.
The author of a recently announced insider account of the raid that killed Usama bin Laden has been identified to Fox News as a 36-year-old former Navy SEAL Team 6 member from Alaska who also played a role in the high-profile rescue of an American captain kidnapped by Somali pirates.Well, you can find the name yourself -- I'm not going to repeat it here. Fox has its own book publishing unit, HarperCollins (which didn't publish the book), so it certainly has contacts in the publishing world. And, of course, they don't call Rupert Murdoch "the Dirty Digger" for nothing, as revelations about his U.K. media operations in the past few years make clear.
The book, "No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden," is set to hit shelves on Sept 11. It is penned under the pseudonym "Mark Owen," according to the publisher, but multiple sources told Fox News his name is in fact....
If the Murdochites thought there was any chance whatsoever that this book contains revelations harmful to the president's reelection chances, the name would not have been revealed -- and, in fact, the Murdoch media would have attacked the patriotism of anyone who revealed the SEAL's name. (It so happens that the same Fox reporter who revealed this SEAL's name suggested that the Obama administration was leaking details of the bin Laden raid and thus threatening the SEALs' safety last year.)
Theoretically, Fox might be planning to argue that the administration leaked the name to Fox as part of its hateful, murderous vendetta against the SEALs. But who the hell would believe that the Obama administration would leak anything to Fox? Especially this?
I assume this book makes Obama look good -- thus it thwarts efforts to discredit the bin Laden killing by Fox-friendly wingnuts like Richard Miniter, Ed Klein, and the birther-led SEALs who are trying to Swift-boat Obama. This is Murdoch's vengeance.
